IMAQ: AFFILIATION WITH AIMA
As of 2023, IMAQ is now nationally affiliated with the Australian Islamic Medical Association (AIMA) as its Queensland Branch.
For further information, including upcoming events, registrations, and what AIMA, and AIMA Queensland can offer you, please see www.aima.org.au. About IMAQ:
The Islamic Medical Association of Queensland Inc. (IMAQ) was formed in Brisbane in 2010 to establish a network of Muslim Healthcare Professionals.
The initial need to establish an organisation of Muslim healthcare professionals in Queensland was first identified a few years ago in response to the increase in the number of health professionals and the specific needs of both our Muslim healthcare providers and those of our patients. In January 2010 a group of Doctors, Dentists and Allied Health Professionals eventually came together to establish the organisation, which was officially launched in July 2010. IMAQ's primary objective is to establish a network of Muslim healthcare professionals. Most of these are recent migrants and many are overseas qualified graduates and we have no local network to pool this wealth of resources across all our various disciplines. Our members include Medical, Dental and Allied Healthcare Professionals, as well as students in these various disciplines. Members are primarily based in Queensland but we do have members from other states across Australia. We now have about 230 members across Queensland. We aim to establish regional branches across the state. In February 2012 a local branch established in Mackay. If you would like to establish a local branch in your area kindly contact [email protected]. IMAQ will provide a forum and resources to promote an awareness of Islamic medical ethics and values amongst our members and the wider community, whilst we disseminate information and guidelines of practice to our members and our patients, all within the Islamic framework. We encourage members to get involved in the activities and events hosted by IMAQ, and would like to receive your suggestions and feedback on these activities. The IMAQ executive meet monthly and we look forward to your attendance and participation in these meetings to share your thoughts and ideas. Recognising Young Muslim High Achievers
In 2022, we continued to recognise the high achievers among our young Muslim community, at the High Achiever Ceremony for outgoing Muslim High Schoolers, hosted by Human Appeal, with IMAQ as a proud sponsor, featuring presentations from our president, Dr Fatima Ashrafi, and executive member, Dr Zarin Nuzhat.
