IMAQ Aims & Objectives:
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:
1. To establish a network of Muslim healthcare professionals. Members will include doctors, dentists, specialists, and all allied healthcare professionals (optometrists, physiotherapists, podiatrists, psychologists, nurses, etc), as well as undergraduate students in all of these professions.
ANCILLARY OBJECTIVES:
2. To promote a better understanding and appreciation of Medicine within the framework of Islam within our members.
3. To promote professional and non-professional contact and co-operation among all healthcare professionals and other organisations on matters of mutual interest.
4. To promote contact within the membership through activities such as meetings, dinners, seminars and conventions.
5. To use our network of Healthcare Professionals to provide medical assistance during emergencies and natural disasters through collaboration with the State or Commonwealth Government and other Non-Governmental Organisations.
6. To establish a close collaboration between the scholars of jurisprudence, the scientific and the medical fraternity to develop guidelines based on Shariah law on a several bio-religio-ethical issues. These may include guidelines regarding human cloning, stem cell research, organ donation, in vitro fertilisation, contraception, and other issues which may arise from time to time.
7. To educate Muslim Healthcare Professionals of Islamic values, morality, etiquette and ethics and to apply these in our profession.
8. To contribute to publications regarding Muslim patients and healthcare in general, including those published by state or federal government, or any other organisation.
9. To promote research and publications in the field of Islamic medical history, Islamic medical ethics and Medicine in general from the Islamic viewpoint.
10. To establish a central source of information to the membership regarding employment opportunities, exchange programmes, scholarship, graduate and undergraduate training opportunities within the medical profession.
11. To foster the relationship within the membership and provide assistance on matters of mutual benefit which may include establishing medical centres, co-ordinate meetings providing financial advice, setting up practices, etc.
12. To disseminate information and liaise with hospitals and nursing homes to provide advice on the needs of Muslim patients regarding provision of halal food and prayer facilities.
13. To provide support to newly qualified local graduates as well as to new migrants in our professions to assist them to settle into their respective professions. This may include assistance and advice with examinations, mentoring programs, provide registrar placements or work experience for undergraduates as well advice on employment opportunities
14. To bring together and network all new graduates in the health professions annually at the finish of their studies and beginning of their new careers.
15. To network with and affiliate to other national and international organisations on matters of mutual interest, including other Islamic Medical Associations as well as the Federation of Islamic Medical Associations. To use and disseminate information or publications between us and these organisations where applicable.
